Vijayalakshmi (Viji) holds B.Tech degree in Biomedical Engineering from Bharath University, Chennai, and MS in Biomedical Engineering from University of Kentucky (USA). She worked in companies related to market research, procurement analysis and testing, related to medical sector for 2.5 years before joining BETiC at IIT Bombay, in July 2014.

Viji is currently developing a self-tapping suture anchor for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in cancellous/ osteoporotic bone, in collaboration with Dr. Deepak Bhatia of KEM Hospital, Mumbai.

Suture Anchor is used in cancellous and osteoporotic bone applications for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair surgery. A new design helps in minimizing anchor pull-out, suture re-tear or breaking at the eyelet, experienced with some of the current suture anchors.

Current status: Metal prototypes have been fabricated and undergoing mechanical testing
